A 35-year-old farmer allegedly killed six people in a series of attacks across Shabad town and nearby Dhaivalaguda village in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district on Friday night, police said. The victims include a 16-year-old girl who was the complainant in a POCSO case against the accused, her mother and grandmother, as well as the accused’s wife and two young sons.
According to police, the accused was out on bail in the POCSO case and allegedly targeted both families before fleeing. A search operation and investigation are underway to establish the motive, reconstruct the sequence of events and trace the accused.
Police Probe Multiple Crime Scenes
Future City Police Commissioner Tarun Joshi said the accused allegedly first went to the minor girl’s house, where he attacked her mother and grandmother before taking the teenager away in a car and allegedly killing her near a lake in his native village.
Police said he later returned home and allegedly killed his wife and two sons. The bodies have been shifted for post-mortem examinations, while forensic teams are examining multiple crime scenes. Officials have launched a manhunt and said all aspects of the case are being investigated.
Investigation Continues Amid Community Shock
Police said multiple teams have been formed to trace the accused, who remains absconding. Investigators are examining CCTV footage, speaking to witnesses and collecting forensic evidence from the different crime scenes to establish the exact sequence of events. Officials said the findings of the post-mortem examinations and forensic analysis are expected to help determine the timeline of the killings and strengthen the investigation.
The incident has sent shockwaves through Shabad town and the nearby village, with residents expressing grief and disbelief over the loss of six lives in a single night. Local authorities have stepped up security in the area to prevent any unrest, while police have appealed to the public not to circulate unverified information or speculation as the investigation progresses.
The case has also renewed discussions around the safety of survivors and witnesses in sexual offence cases. While bail is a legal right in many circumstances and does not imply innocence or guilt, legal experts have often emphasised the importance of assessing potential risks to victims and their families when courts consider conditions for release. As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to examine whether any prior complaints, threats or warning signs existed and whether additional protective measures could have prevented the tragedy.
Bail, Earlier Case Raise Questions
Police said the accused had been arrested earlier this year in connection with a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and was recently released on bail. Investigators are examining whether the alleged murders were linked to that case.
The incident has shocked residents of the district and sparked questions about victim protection, monitoring of accused persons released on bail and the support available to survivors and their families during ongoing legal proceedings.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
This devastating case is a reminder that survivors of sexual offences and their families require not only access to justice but also effective protection throughout the legal process. While the investigation must proceed fairly and the accused’s guilt be determined through due process, the tragedy also highlights the need to strengthen victim safety mechanisms, risk assessments and institutional support.
Preventing such violence demands a justice system that safeguards vulnerable people without compromising fairness. What measures do you think could better protect survivors and families facing threats while criminal cases are still pending?
