The husband of the warden of a government-run boarding school hostel in Kishangarh Bas of Rajasthan’s Alwar district, allegedly molested two minor girls of the same school, police said. Both the girls are students of class 12.

What had happened?

Police further said that warden Neel Kamal Yadav of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya’s hostel would call the girls to her house where her husband Naresh Yadav and his friend would assault them sexually. The husband would even force the minors to befriend his friends. Naresh teaches at the Government Model School in Alwar’s Tijara town.

The incident came to light when the school Principal, Sukhi Ram, was at the hostel distributing sweets to celebrate the return of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. “Two girls came to me crying and told me about their ordeal. I asked them to give a written complaint and informed the police,” Sukhi Ram said. One of the victims belongs to a Scheduled Caste.

“A case of molestation has been registered against the accused after two girls complained of molestation by the warden’s husband. Questioning is underway,” Investigating officer Neha Aggarwal said, as per a report by India.com. In connection to the matter, a written complaint has been submitted to the Principal of the school by two inmates of the hostel.

Cases registered against the accused

Cases under Sections 354-A (sexual harassment) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the SC/ST Atrocities Act against the accused have been registered at Kishangarh Bas police station, The Hindu reported.

According to Neemrana Additional Superintendent of Police Mahesh Tripathi, the two girls in their statement alleged that there are other inmates who have “quietly suffered” the abuse but were hesitant to speak up against it. Following the complaint, around eight girls’ statements were obtained. A team was sent to Haryana to track down Ramkesh Sharma, the third accused.

Ramkesh happens to be among the donors who have made monetary contributions to the hostel. Both the warden and her husband have been placed under suspension by The State government’s Education Department. Disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against them.

After the incident came to light, the hostel was visited by Alwar MP Karan Singh Yadav, Congress leader and former Union Minister Jitendra Singh and State Labour Minister Tika Ram Jully. They assured that strict action will be taken against the accused.

Crimes against women have been on the rise for years, and the perpetrators do not seem to be afraid of the consequences. It is time for us to consider that perhaps the consequences faced by culprits previously have not been severe enough to scare others. In several cases, justice is denied and in others, it is delayed to such an extent that the survivors lose hope. The Logical Indian condemns the act and urges authorities to take quick action against the accused.
