A 19-year-old girl was arrested on Thursday, October 24 after she allegedly threw acid on her boyfriend who refused to marry her in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.

The survivor has been identified as 20-year-old Faizan. An FIR has been registered against the girl under section 326 A (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid) of IPC based on a complaint filed by the boy’s family member.

Faizan’s mother confirmed that the girl was in a relationship with her son, but he had not been talking to her for a month. She also alleged that the girl, for some time, has been pressuring Faizan to get married by calling him on the phone every day. The mother said that the girl had called Faizan on Thursday morning too. When Faizan did not respond, she threw acid on him while he was standing in front of a shop next to his residence.

On the other hand, the girl said that Faizan was allegedly threatening to make her intimate pictures with him viral on social media if she did not marry him. Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College’s Dr SS Zaidi said that Faizan’s eyes were adversely affected by the acid attack. He is currently undergoing treatment.

A few months ago in June, another such incident came to spotlight when a 19-year-old girl poured acid-like substance on herself and her friend when they were riding on a bike. The police said that the girl had poured acid on the boy so that he cannot get out of a three-year-old relationship. Although she refused to accept the crime and said that someone else poured the substance as she herself was a victim.
