Prestige Public School marked World Environment Day 2026 with a powerful and inspiring address by its Chief Guest, Ms Roohi Mohazzab, who is celebrated globally as the World’s Youngest United Nations Speaker. The event brought together students, teachers, and dignitaries for a message-driven programme focused on environmental responsibility, youth leadership, and climate action. Roohi’s speech stood out as both emotional and action-oriented, leaving a deep impact on the audience.
World Environment Day 2026 Celebration at Prestige Public School
The celebration was aligned with this year’s World Environment Day theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.” The programme was conducted under the global campaign banner “NOW FOR CLIMATE,” which framed the entire event around urgent ecological awareness and collective responsibility. The school environment turned into a platform for discussion on sustainability, responsibility, and the role of children in shaping a greener future.

‘Mama Earth cries’: A Powerful Emotional Appeal
Speaking with emotional clarity, Roohi opened her address with a striking analogy that connected human emotions to the condition of the planet. She said, “Mama Earth cries. She gets angry. For whom? FOR US! Why? Because she’s Mama. She wants us to be safe.” She went on to highlight recent climate-related disasters, including extreme heat waves, the deadly landslides in Wayanad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, and destructive storms in Uttar Pradesh. Through these examples, she emphasized that environmental crises are no longer distant warnings but present realities demanding immediate action.

Children as Active Agents of Change
Rejecting the idea that children are powerless, Roohi urged students to see themselves as active contributors to change. She told the audience, “We are the children of this world. This is OUR WORLD, YOURS and MINE.” She led the gathering in a collective pledge, reinforcing the idea that environmental responsibility cannot be limited to a single day and must be practiced daily through conscious living. This central idea was captured in her powerful call that “Every Day Is Environment Day.”
Five Everyday Actions for Young Environmental Champions
As part of her address, Roohi introduced five simple but impactful pledges for young environmental champions. First, she encouraged students to finish the food in their lunchboxes and communicate with parents about how much they can eat to avoid food waste. Second, she suggested watering plants by using leftover drinking water instead of discarding it. Third, she emphasized caring for stationery by returning it safely after use to prevent loss and wastage. Fourth, she advised children to think before buying new items, especially toys, and question whether they truly need them. Fifth, she urged everyone to carry a reusable cloth bag every time they step out of the house.

Two Ambitious Green Initiatives for India
Beyond daily habits, Roohi also unveiled two ambitious environmental initiatives aimed at creating long-term impact. The first is the Tree Bank Nursery, a vision to establish a dedicated tree nursery in every school across India, where students can nurture saplings and distribute them within their communities. The second is the One Crore Trees initiative from Kerala to Kashmir, a nationwide tree-planting campaign designed to involve citizens, students, and institutions in large-scale afforestation efforts spanning the entire country.
Global Inspiration and Closing Message
During her address, she also inspired the audience with a reference to global music icon Michael Jackson, saying, “Let’s do this together. And like Michael Jackson said, Heal the World, Make it a Better Place, for You and for Me and the Entire Human Race.” Her words reinforced the idea that environmental protection is a shared global responsibility that transcends age, geography, and background.
