Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa called all parties in Parliament to cooperate with him to address the country's escalating crisis on 4 April, as citizen rallies asking for his resignation grew across the country. The offer, however, was rejected by all major opposition parties, who reminded the President of the people's main demand that he and his family members in government resign immediately. Hundreds of individuals have been demonstrating constantly around the island nation, signalling a growing public backlash against the Rajapaksa regime, which came to office promising 'prosperity and splendour' to the people.
