Karnataka Retains Top Position By Securing 14 Of 46 National Startup Awards 2021

Out of the total 46 awards, 14 were secured by Karnataka, making 30 per cent of the National Startup Awards 2021 distributed by the Indian government this year.

The Indian government awarded 46 startups at the National Startup Award 2021 on Saturday, January 15. Out of the total awards, 14 were secured by Karnataka, making 30 per cent of the awards distributed this year. From across the country, there were thousands of applications, 2173 were submitted for the awards, and 549 were from Karanataka, said Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, IT-BT and Skill Development Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan, in Bengaluru, as reported by the New Indian Express. He said, "Based on the performance of startups, we give up to Rs 50 lakh as seed fund. We have so far funded 498 startups. Around 200 entities got funding this year."

The Economic Times reported that Basavaraj Bommai Karnataka Chief Miniter said that Narendra Modi, Prime Minister, has been supporting the sector in a big way, as his own government's aim is to replicate Bengaluru's success in the startup ecosystem in other districts.

Startups That Won

The winning startups are from varied fields such as education, animal husbandry, agriculture, skill development, enterprise system, fintech, health and wellness, industry 4.0, travel and transport. The startups that walked away with awards are Athreya Global Solution, Leucine Rich Bio, Umbo Biotech, Naffa Innovation, Rubanbridge, Simplotel Technologies, Shapes Service, Zentrum Labs, Stellapps Technologies, Marketpanderx Services, Steradian Semiconductors, Blinkin Technologies and Tinkerbell Labs.

Under the special categories, Tagbox Solutions stood out as being innovative during the COVID pandemic, having contributed to solving compliance issues and other problems in tracking vaccine shipments.

Seed Funding For Promising Startups

Out of the startups mentioned above, Tinkerbell, Steradian, and Tagbox are already the winners of Elevate 100 program. Elevate 100 is a state-initiated program that backs promising startups with seed funding. The state has decided to double the amount of seed funding, which can go up to 50 lakhs; so far, the state has funded 498 startups, and around 200 entities got funding this year.
