“I never knew I could scream like that. The pain was unbearable. I was too shocked to know what was happening. Later, I saw burns, I saw my face. Scarred. Damaged. A stranger’s face. Acid attacks happen to others right? I never imagined that something like this could happen to me. Acid was thrown on me and I live with what it has done to me, every day.”

-Reshma, an acid attack survivor.

This is just not the story of a single victim; it is the story of every single victim. As per a report by BBC, about 1000 cases of acid attack take place in India every year. A recent analysis by the Indian Express showed that there has been an alarming 250% increase in the number of reported acid attack cases between 2012 and 2014.
