Tamil Nadu: DMK Slams Congress As ‘Backstabbers’ As Vijay’s TVK Wins 108 Seats, Ending 50-Year Dravidian Rule

Veteran producer R. B. Choudary’s sudden death in a road accident has left the Indian film industry in shock.

A massive political upheaval has struck Tamil Nadu following the 2026 Assembly election results, as the long-standing alliance between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Indian National Congress (INC) teeters on the brink of collapse. The friction ignited after reports surfaced that the Congress is considering extending support to actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which emerged as the single largest party with 108 seats just short of a majority.

Infuriated by this potential “betrayal,” DMK spokespersons have publicly labeled the Congress as “backstabbers,” asserting that the seats won by the national party were solely due to DMK’s grassroots strength. With Vijay scheduled to take his oath on May 7, the state’s political arithmetic is undergoing a historic realignment, threatening the national unity of the INDIA bloc.

The Rift Widens: Allegations Of Betrayal

The DMK’s outburst follows a dramatic shift in the state’s power dynamics where the ruling party was reduced to just 59 seats. DMK representatives did not mince words, stating that they call this backstabbing because the Congress has decided to flip sides just within a day of the results, openly going against the mandate.

They further warned that this “untrustworthy” behavior would send ripples through the INDIA bloc, affecting ties with other national partners. The DMK leadership argued that the Congress would have “drawn a blank” without their support and questioned why the national leadership would support a party like TVK, which they allege has a “soft stance” toward the BJP.

A New Dawn In Dravidian Heartland

While the DMK fumes, the mood in the TVK camp is one of triumph. Actor Vijay’s blockbuster political debut has shattered the 50-year-old binary dominance of the DMK and AIADMK. Seeking to bridge the 11-seat gap to the majority mark of 118, Vijay has formally reached out to the Congress, VCK and Left parties. In response, Congress officials confirmed that the party leadership has directed its state unit to prioritize a “secular government” and keep “BJP and its proxies” at bay.

It has been noted that the Political Affairs Committee has authorized support for TVK, with sources suggesting the Congress is eyeing ministerial positions in the new cabinet. This move signals a pragmatic, albeit controversial, shift for the Congress as it seeks to remain relevant in a post-Dravidian-duopoly era.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

The unfolding drama in Tamil Nadu is a stark reminder of how quickly “ideological” alliances can dissolve when power is at stake. While the Congress justifies its shift as a move to protect secularism, the DMK views it as a transactional abandonment of a decade-long partnership.

At The Logical Indian, we believe that political stability should be rooted in a genuine mandate and transparent dialogue rather than desperate seat-sharing maneuvers. When partners use vitriolic language like “backstabbers,” it erodes public trust in the democratic process. The priority for any new government should be the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu, not the “egos” of leaders or the distribution of portfolios. As the state enters this new chapter, one must wonder: is the era of stable, ideology-driven coalitions officially over?

Do you think the Congress is right to support a new alternative like Vijay’s TVK, or is the DMK justified in feeling betrayed by its long-term ally? Share your thoughts below.
