Women face tremendous challenges in India, both in urban cities and rural towns – and nowhere is this more pronounced than in the field of sports. From jibes of sport is “not for girls” to outright biases in terms of facilities, the struggle they face is real and daily.
Sports is a means of liberation for them in more ways than one – physical, from the confines of where they are restricted to the more fundamental aspect of freedom and identity to choose to be what they wish.
In circumstances like these, while competing with athletes at the international arena, their struggle is even more acute since they have not received the same opportunities.
They have no level playing field – neither in terms of gender, nor opportunity. And in spite of all that, they triumph.
The video above showcases confidence, fierce and indomitable spirit of a girl who has the skill and talent to achieve her dreams – all she needs is a #LevelTheField.
The level-playing field is as much a metaphorical expression of the cry for equality as it is a literal, physical call for basic infrastructure.
Given the recent showing at the Olympics and the pride and joy our women athletes have brought us, it is now incumbent upon us to provide them with the opportunities and infrastructure to succeed globally.
With your help today, India can
nurture future sportspersons.
Petition the HRD Ministry to make
sports a compulsory subject in
schools. Sports is education too.
