It is true that the stories of some individuals require extra attention. For instance, on February 16, 2019, a motorman with the Central Railway, ferried the passengers without any delays. This might be normal to most of the people, until and unless one gets to know that the 48-year-old motorman was attacked by some miscreants who threw chilli powders at him, reported the India Today. Laxman Singh was piloting the CSMT (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus) – Tiwala down local train, carrying more than 2000 commuters. Just after the train left Kalwa station, unidentified miscreants threw chilli powders at the motorman. Despite severe burning sensation, Singh drove 18 kilometres to avoid inordinate delay on the entire railway line. Knowing about his courageous act, the Central Railway DRM (Divisional Railway Manager) Sanjay Jain felicitated Singh with an appreciation certificate along with a cash reward of Rs 1000.

What has happened?

According to railway officials just after the train passed Kalwa station at 3.35 pm, some miscreants threw chilli powder at him. Though the chilli powder caused him severe irritation in his eyes, he didn’t apply emergency brakes as the train was running at 95 kmph and could have caused a safety risk to the passengers. He informed the control room about the incident. When the train reached the next station (Mumbra), he was told that there was no possible replacement available for him at the moment. After washing his eyes at the station, he piloted the train. The DY Station Superintendent accompanied him this time. He again washed his eyes in the next station Kopar. He kept on washing his eyes in Dombivali and Thakurli and piloted the train safely till Kalyan at around 4:12 pm.

After he reached Kalyan, he was rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment, where doctors said that the powder had entered his eyes. After receiving medication, he was allowed to go home. The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Central Railways, Sunil Udasi said that the DRM Central Railways has felicitated Singh for his exemplary service with a certificate and a cash prize. He further said that a police complaint against the miscreants has been initiated.

The Logical Indian salutes Singh for his service to the railway department. Despite being hurt severely, he continued to carry 2000 people to prevent any delay, shows how much he is entitled to his job. We ask all our readers to take inspiration from Singh.
