Gujarat: Story Of A Father, Who Received Father’s Day Wishes From 472 Daughters

This father’s day was actually a day of cherishing for Ahmedabad businessman Mahesh Savani. He has been able to play the role of a father figure to 472 women, who all poured him with their greetings cards on that day.

These women are like his daughters, whose weddings were all organized by Mr. Savani over the past few years.

10 years ago, Mr. Savani, now 47, had performed the ‘kanyadan’ ceremony for his two nieces after the death of his brother. After the event, he began to think about other girls who don’t have fathers in their lives and felt to do something for them as well. This was the beginning. Since 2008, he started supporting girls by helping them getting married and supporting them through married life. He has been organizing weddings annually. His father, Vallabhbhai, arrived in the city almost 40 years ago to work as a diamond polisher and ended up being a unit owner. Now the family is prosperous enough for Savani to spend over Rs 4 lakh on each daughter for holding grand weddings.

Savani also arranges for gold and silver jewellery, clothes, electronic goods for the women to start their home. He arranges their weddings irrespective of their caste or religion. In 2016, 216 girls will get Savani’s help to marry.

The Logical Indian salutes Mr. Savani for his noble initiative to take up the responsibility of marrying off women whose fathers are not beside them.
