Andhra Pradesh: Family Donates Organs Of Brain Dead Daughter & Saves 6 Lives

A family in Vijayawada city pays a unique tribute to their deceased techie daughter, Mythri Tejaswini.

After shopping, Mythri Tejaswini was on her way home with her brother on a two-wheeler when they met with an accident. A drunken constable, trying to overtake them, hit their vehicle hard from behind. Both of them fell off their vehicle, and Mythri suffered severe head injuries. She was immediately hospitalized. She died on Wednesday morning. According to the doctors, Mythri stopped responding to medicines and finally was declared dead on account of a brain haemorrhage.

Family decides to donate organs

It was a moment of grief for the family, but on the guidance of Jeevan Dhan Trust that explained to them the value of organ donation, Mythri’s family decided to go ahead with it.

They initially denied going forward with organ donation as they had a ray of hope that she might respond to the treatment However, soon after the doctor declared her dead, the family decided to donate her organs and help save the lives of many others.

The family told the The Times of India, “There could be no better alternative to pay tribute to our daughter irrespective of donating her organs to save others.” With this, they prayed that her soul might rest in peace.

After the family, including her father Royal, sister Ramya Tejaswini and the brother Michael Raviteja, decided to go ahead with the donation, the doctors at the Metro Hospital thrived in hard to harvest vital organs aseptically out of Maythri Tejaswini’s body and with the green channel support extended by the police, witnessed a successful organ donation.

As per press reports, Maythri Tejaswini’s heart and lungs were donated at Global Hospital (Chennai) and Apollo Hospital (Vishakhapatnam) respectively. One of the two kidneys’ found is its receiver at Vijaya Hospital (Vijayawada) and the other at Narayana Hospital (Nellore). Eye donation was contributed to LV Prasad Eye Institute (Vijayawada). Mythri saved six lives.

“A drunken constable killed my sister, and we cannot assure how long will it to convince ourselves that she is no more. However, at the same time, we have somewhere gratified that her organs were helpful in saving the lives of needy,” said her brother.

Constable arrested

Police Commissioner Gautam Sawang (Vijaywada Police Station) marked his presence at the hospital to solace the family in grief. Appreciating their decision to donate their daughter’s organs, he assured them that the culprit would be strictly punished.

After a complaint was lodged in the police station by Mythri Tejaswini’s brother, the Suryaraopet police under the section 338 of IPC (causing grievous hurt by endangering life or personal safety of others) lodged a case against the accused.

The accused constable, identified as Srinivas, lost his duty on account of a suspension order released by the highest officials and is now behind the bars till the verdict of the court is pronounced.
