Ethiopian Runner Finishes Race With Just One Shoe, Wins Everyone's Heart And A Place At The Final

Ethiopia’s Etenesh Diro stuns the whole world displaying her untameable sportsman spirit. During Saturday’s 3,000-metre steeplechase event at the Rio Olympics, Diro got tangled up with two other runners leading to a disastrous footwear malfunction.

What followed the incident, raised the audience from their seats. The event took a dramatic turn and the audience saw 25-year-old Diro continuing her race with only one shoe on.

She finished the race in the seventh position in 9 minutes 34.7 seconds, more than 20 seconds off her personal best.

Fortunately, it didn’t end Diro’s stint at the Rio Olympics. She lodged an appeal with the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) and the officials granted her a spot in Monday’s final.

Diro, who came fifth at the London Olympics in 2012, hurt her foot this time in between the tangle. She stopped and took off her right shoe and continued to run rest of the race with just one shoe.

The Logical Indian wishes her all the best for the final.
