With Labels In Braille, This Initiative Is Empowering The Visually Impaired

India is home to almost 1/3rd of the total blind people in the world. Even with advances in technology and healthcare, these people are forced to go through life in darkness. Even though citizen groups and NGOs have come up with different initiatives such as books in braille, it’s hard to reach out to all those who need help. Recently, in a heartwarming gesture, a Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata hosted a pandal for the blind which included a Durga figure made entirely of nails.

However, the routine challenges of daily life are a continuous burden on the visually impaired people. All the things we take for granted, like shaving, cooking etc, are tasks laced with problems for the blind. Have we ever considered how difficult it must be for them to do their daily tasks? And, what if, one sustains injuries and cuts doing their household chores, then who will come to their aid?

The well-being of society is the shared responsibility of all of us. In this light, Savlon, have come up with a heartwarming initiative of their own. Noting the daily challenges of the visually impaired, Savlon has put labels in Braille on their bottles. So, even if some injuries can’t be prevented, there is immediate and trusted respite easily available at hand.

In the videos, the impact and need of the initiative are artistically and humanely portrayed as it’s often difficult for us to imagine the problems faced by others. This one-of-a-kind initiative is a small step, considering the severity of the issue, but even a small step in the right direction can break the shackles.

As a society, it is our duty to empower those in need. To empower means, to enable them to be independent and this initiative by Savlon aims to do just that. The Logical Indian appreciates this innovative and heartwarming gesture by Savlon and hopes that other brands soon follow suit.
