The ‘Roohi’s Tree Bank Nursery’ project, pioneered by the extraordinary young environmentalist Roohi Mohazzab, is a visionary initiative aimed at planting 1 crore trees across India. Beginning its journey at a school in Kerala, this ambitious project aspires to unite thousands of schools, stretching from Kerala in the south to Kashmir in the north, in a collective effort to nurture environmental stewardship among students.

Through this initiative, Roohi seeks to cultivate not just trees, but a deep-rooted culture of ecological responsibility and sustainable living among the youth of the nation.

On November 7, 2025, Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar inaugurated the ‘Roohi’s Tree Bank Nursery’ project in Kozhikode. This ambitious initiative, led by six-year-old environmentalist Roohi Mohazzab, is set to plant 1 crore trees across 10,000 schools nationwide within the next three years.

The Governor, alongside Roohi, planted saplings and lauded her efforts, urging students to follow this model of environmental conservation. The project aims for each school to plant 1,000 native species trees, thus promoting local ecosystem sustainability from Kerala to Kashmir.

A Nationwide Green Vision

The Tree Bank Nursery engages schools across India, tasking each with planting 1,000 saplings to promote local ecosystems and combat climate change. Governor Arlekar lauded Roohi’s vision as exemplary, emphasising the vital role trees play in mitigating global warming.

Roohi, recognised globally as the youngest environmentalist, has campaigned for ecological issues including reusing passport paper and planting in regions prone to landslides. Her parents actively support her sustainable educational initiatives, fostering environmental awareness among children. This grassroots movement is designed to impact both the environment and the educational curriculum, teaching students practical responsibility and care for nature from a young age.

Roots of Inspiration and Support

Roohi’s early activism is a powerful example of youth engagement in environmental protection. The Governor planted saplings alongside Roohi, endorsing her as a role model for students. Support from influential figures like Faisal Kottikollon and Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri during the launch event underscores the collective responsibility to nurture India’s natural heritage.

Roohi’s journey is backed by strong family support. Her parents have encouraged eco-friendly habits, such as using recycled paper for books and promoting a green lifestyle. This initiative signals larger community involvement and builds a network of schools committed to environmental rejuvenation, demonstrating that ecological conservation is not just a governmental task but a societal mission.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

Roohi Mohazzab’s initiative embodies the spirit of compassionate activism and community harmony that The Logical Indian champions. By empowering young minds with a proactive role in environmental preservation, it cultivates a culture of empathy, knowledge-sharing, and peaceful coexistence with nature.

This story invites reflection on how society can further support and scale such inspiring grassroots efforts to build a sustainable future. Encouraging youth-led environmental initiatives is crucial not only for combating climate change but also for fostering a society rooted in kindness, dialogue, and cooperation.
