Actor and YouTuber Sambhavna Seth and her husband Avinash Dwivedi have alleged that they helped rescue the sister of their domestic worker after she was reportedly held against her will by her employers in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. Sharing the incident in a Facebook video, the couple claimed the woman had allegedly been confined inside the residence, threatened with death and prevented from returning home despite repeatedly expressing her wish to leave.
They said they coordinated with an NGO volunteer and the police to secure her rescue before an FIR was reportedly registered at Bangur Nagar Police Station. The allegations are currently under investigation, and no official response from the accused has been reported so far. Police are expected to examine the claims and determine the facts as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Rescue Mission Unfolds
According to Sambhavna Seth and Avinash Dwivedi, the incident came to light after their domestic worker approached them seeking help for her sister, who had travelled to Navi Mumbai for domestic work through an agency. The couple alleged that soon after joining her employers, the woman contacted her family saying she was being prevented from leaving and wanted to return home. Concerned by the situation, Seth and Dwivedi claimed they began making enquiries and eventually travelled to the housing society in Kharghar, where they reportedly sought assistance from an NGO volunteer residing in the same complex.
In their account, the couple alleged that the employers initially refused to allow the woman to leave and had reportedly withheld her identity documents. They further claimed they faced resistance while trying to secure her release, prompting them to seek police intervention.
After the woman was reportedly rescued, the group is said to have spent several hours at a police station to ensure a formal complaint was registered. The FIR was eventually reportedly lodged at Bangur Nagar Police Station, following which the woman was reunited with her family. Sharing the ordeal publicly, Seth said she decided to speak out because “silence would only encourage such exploitation”, while Dwivedi urged authorities to ensure those responsible are held accountable if the allegations are found to be true.

The incident has drawn widespread attention online, with many social media users praising the couple’s intervention while expressing concern over the alleged treatment of the domestic worker. The case has also renewed conversations around the vulnerabilities faced by thousands of migrant domestic workers across India, many of whom depend on placement agencies and informal employment arrangements.
