In a ghastly incident of mob justice, a middle-aged woman was stripped naked, beaten up and two fingers of her left arm were chopped off in Malda district of West Bengal on Saturday evening because her cow had apparently entered her neighbour’s field and grazed on the crop.

The victim had tied her cow next to a field belonging to a person called Harun Sheikh. However, the cow managed to break away the knot and entered Sheikh’s field, where she ate the food grains.

On seeing the cow, Harun with his associates Lalu Sheikh, Iftar Sheikh, Ahmed Sheikh and three other local goons started beating the cow. The cow has suffered severe leg injuries.

When the woman saw that her cow was being beaten up, she went there to resist. The accused stripped her and started beating her brutally. Later, they also chopped off two fingers of her left hand. The victim’s son who tried to rescue his mother was also beaten up and had sustained injuries on his head and back.

After hearing their cries, the villagers went to help them, but by that time, the accused had fled the scene.

The woman and the son have been admitted to a hospital, while, an FIR has been filed against the accused at the local police station.
