UP: "I Requested The Cops To Help The Woman But They Poured Liquor Down My Throat," Said Journalist

Police force is a body of persons empowered by the state to protect the law. But what happens when they are the one to outbreak the law?

In a recent incident which took place in Etah district of Uttar Pradesh, a senior journalist was forced to drink alcohol in the police station by the Police.

Journalist Babloo Chakraborty of Mansukh Times, a vernacular daily was going back home from office around 9:15 PM on Sunday. On his way home is a police station, while he was on his way back, he saw a woman bleeding profusely in the premises of Kotwali Nagar Station. Out of humanity Babloo enquired her about the injury and the lady told him that she needed help but the police were not supportive.

To help her, Babloo requested the police to look into this matter and send the lady to the hospital to stop her bleeding.

“I requested the cops to send the woman to the hospital so that she can be given medical help. But instead of helping the woman, the cops snatched my purse and abused me. I threatened to call their seniors, but on the contrary, the constables summoned six more cops from cabin who then assaulted me and forcefully poured country-made liquor down my throat.” said Babloo Chakraborty.

After the whole incident, Babloo called his friends to help him reach the hospital. Seeing his friends, the constables ran away.

Mr Babloo has requested SSP Ajay Shankar Rai to probe into this matter and take immediate steps against the cops. He has been assured that the matter will be thoroughly investigated.

While speaking to The Logical Indian, The Station House Officer of Etah, Uttar Pradesh has confirmed that the journalist was assaulted by the constables and the matter is being thoroughly looked into.

The incidences of ill-treatment meted out to the reporters who actually report from the ground is not new. There have been cases where reporters have been assaulted, murdered and burnt for reporting the news. Reporters who works- in rural India work on a really small pay scale, without any facilities or security. Ajit Singh, the reporter who reported Dana Majhi case, works on a pay of Rs 6,000, but even then he did everything from his side to get the help, but there is no appreciation or encouragement. India ranks abysmally low at 133 among 180 countries when it comes to press freedom.
