Tribal Woman Gang-Raped For Demanding Wages In Hyderabad

In a shocking incident in Telangana, a 30-year-old tribal woman was allegedly gang-raped for three consecutive days by the contractor and his friends for pending wages. While the woman was sexually abused, her husband was tied up in a room and physically assaulted for three days.

The harassment began on the night of September 18 and continued till September 21. The woman and her husband managed to escape and contact the police a week after the incident.

The prime accused in the incident, Prasad Reddy had employed the migrant labourers from Nagarkurnool in his poultry farm on a combined salary of Rs 15000. The couple were not paid for the last two months. When the couple demanded their pending wages, Reddy called the two to his farm citing an emergency.

He then took the couple to a building where the two were kept in separate rooms. Reddy was joined with three other men who together raped the woman and mercilessly assaulted her husband for three days.

The couple managed to escape on September 21 but returned to the farm seeking their remaining payment. Prasad allegedly threatened to kill the couple if they tried to approach the police. On September 26, the couple filed an FIR with the Pahadi Shareef police station.

“The woman has suffered injury marks all over her body during the assault. She has undergone a medical test and we are awaiting results,” said Sunpreet Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Rachakonda.

The police have booked the accused Mucha Prasanth Reddy (30), Mucha Anil Reddy (26), R. Bharath (26), Devarshetty Pavan Kumar (29) and C. Hanmanthu (25) under various sections of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Women and Children Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod on Friday urged the police to carry out the investigation and ensure the arrest of the accused at the earliest, The New Indian Express reported. She said that the victim was undergoing treatment and that efforts were being taken to ensure justice for her.
