Lucknow: Drunk Son Of An Ex-MLA Rams Car Into Night Shelter Killing 5 Homeless Labourers

In yet another horrific case of accident, five labourers were killed, and eight others were critically injured after a speeding car rammed into a night shelter for homeless people in Lucknow’s Dalibagh area on Sunday morning.

The man behind the steering wheel was found to be Ayush Kumar, son of former Samajwadi Party MLA late Ashok Rawat. His friend Nikhil Arora accompanied Ayush, and both of them in their 20s were found in an inebriated state. Both of them were arrested by the police.

According to the reports of the police, Rawat did not even posses a driving licence. An FIR was lodged under IPC section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and other relevant sections.

The labourers who were killed had come to Lucknow from Nanpara, nearly 150 kilometres away from the UP capital. Rs 2 lakh compensation have been announced by the police for the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those who were critically injured.

The incident took place while Ayush and Nikhil were returning to their homes around 1:35 a.m. from a party at a friend’s place. Circle Officer of Hazratganj, Ashok Verma told Hindustan Times, “Ayush confessed that he was under the influence of alcohol. Ayush lost his control while approaching the night shelter and rammed into it.”

After the car rammed the night shelter. The police rushed the victims to the hospital where four were declared brought dead. Five others injured were taken to KGMU’s trauma centre where one of them succumbed to his injuries on later in the morning.
