MP: Student Smashed To Death With Stone For Refusing To Withdraw Sexual Harassment Case

A 23-year-old student from Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh was killed on August 20 after she was dragged by her hair and smashed with a stone by a man who had been allegedly pressurising the victim to withdraw the sexual harassment case that had been filed against him.

What happened?

Reportedly, the police said that incident took place in broad daylight, near a government girls’ college. Around noon, the girl was walking towards the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Government Girls College in Seoni which is around 350 kms from the state’s capital, Bhopal.

It was then that Anil Mishra, 38, who is the accused, disembarked from his bike and dragged the woman by her hair to the side of the road. Reportedly, he then pushed the victim to the ground and smashed her head with a stone which was lying nearby. While some people rushed to the spot and tried to save the victim, she succumbed to her injuries even before reaching the hospital. Both of them hail from a village in Seoni district.

Refused to withdraw sexual harassment charges

Arvind Jain, Kotwali Police Station in-charge, while talking to The Logical Indian said that the victim had filed a case of sexual harassment against one, Anil Mishra, 38. While the case was ongoing, Mishra had repeatedly asked the victim to withdraw the harassment charges that had been filed by the victim. The incident that followed was a result of the victim’s refusal to withdraw the charges. “The accused has been arrested and is not in jail,” added Jain.
