Immersing oneself in books and notes throughout the day and going through each and every question from the Manorama General Knowledge books is what civil service aspirants usually do but not Sreenath K. Sreenath.  He has been a porter in Kerala’s Ernakulam railway station for the last five years and managed to crack the written test for Kerala Public Service Commission, thanks to his phone.

A school drop-out, Sreenath used the station Wi-Fi and his phone to study. While picking up heavy bags of restless passengers, his digital teacher taught him the course through his headphones. Passengers get free WiFi under a government scheme launched in 2016.

“I have appeared thrice for the exam and this is the first time I used the WiFi at the station. What I do is put on my earphones and listen to the study material as I carry the luggage or solve questionnaires in my mind. This way I can study while I work. I revise all my work at night when I get free time,” said Sreenath, reported NDTV.

He says the Wi-Fi has opened up a vast range of possibilities for him. He could download sample question papers, practice material and also online examination forms. If he qualifies in the interview then he will work as a village field assistant under the land revenue department.

“I will keep studying. While I work as a coolie because I have the pressure of running my house, I will keep studying and appearing for exams. If I appear for enough exams, I am bound to get a good job,” Sreenath said.

He also applied for exams advertised recently by the railways for 62,000 posts. “What is my ideal job? A person of some authority to change things in my village maybe,” he said.

The Logical Indian congratulates Sreenath on his achievement. This proves that when there is a will, there’s a way.
