Black Night of February 5, 2012
Suzette Jordan was 37 years old and a mother of two; she was gang-raped on the night of February 5, 2012 by five men. They offered to drop her home from a night club at Kolkata’s posh Park Street area. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had called it a “sajano ghatana” or made-up case after Suzette had filed her complaint with the police, a few days later. Damyanti Sen, a senior police officer, pursued the case and identified the five accused. She was later shunted out from the post.
Three of the five accused were arrested and two others including the main accused absconded.
