Failing To Get Parents' Murder Case Opened Even After Meeting Top Ministers, 21-Yr-Old Girl Commits Suicide

A 21-year-old committed suicide in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh on 8 October allegedly because she was depressed over the failure and the apathy of the U.P. police to solve the murder of her parents, reported The Hindu.

In her suicide note, Rakhi, the 21-year-old has explicitly talked about how inaction on the part of the authorities has frustrated her and compelled her to take this extreme step.

Her parents, Banwari Lal and Ravibala, were killed by goons on the night of March 8-9 when they were sleeping in their house in Amar Colony, Mathura.

Post the suicide of Rakhi, Mathura Senior Superintendent of Police Swapnil Mamgain has reportedly suspended inspector Girish Chandra Tiwari, the officer who was investigating the double murder case.

The case has been transferred to the Crime Branch. The investigation is underway in the suicide case of Rakhi. She had consumed sulphas tablets after which she died in the local hospital.

A compensation of Rs 5 lakh has been announced by the Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Mathura and Power Minister in the Yogi Adityanath-led government Shrikant Sharma.

Her Struggle

The investigating officer in the case has been suspended now, and compensation has been provided to the victim’s family. But, the entire history of apathy and indifference that Rakhi and her family were shown by the authorities cannot be ignored.

The grieving girl had left no stone unturned to bring justice to her expired parents. Starting from the local police station to the SP, Mathura to the District Magistrate, Aravind Mallappa – Rakhi got in touch with everyone to help her.

There was no positive response from the authorities; only false hope – but Rakhi was relentless. She got in touch with BJP MLA from Mathura, Hema Malini; State Ministers Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary and Shrikant Sharma; Deputy Chief Minister, Keshav Maurya. All her efforts did not yield anything positive.

Finally, she even contacted CM Adityanath and wrote a letter to PM Modi – none of them bore any fruits except for consolations and false promises.

The suicide led to a public outcry, with residents of Amar Colony blocking the adjoining highway for two hours. The police had to forcibly remove them from the spot.

The Logical Indian Take

It was the apathy of the authorities that forced the young girl towards such a dire measure. All of the concerned authorities were notified about the incident, but none made any effort to help out Rakhi who only wanted to find the culprits who had murdered her parents in cold blood.

The indifference is shocking and makes us think that if the custodians of law and order do not sit up and work towards a better society, who shall we go to?

The young girl did all she could, but her pleas fell on deaf ears. Now, her siblings have decided that if a proper investigation is not done for Rakhi’s suicide and also about their parents’ murder, they will sit on indefinite hunger strike.

The Logical Indian urges the authorities to look into the matter and take immediate action, at least after an innocent has taken away her life fighting for justice.
