Illegal Liquor Takes 33 Lives, UP Police Crackdown On Liquor Mafia, 1621 Arrested

Lives of 33 people have been claimed and 50 others are admitted concerning the liquor tragedy in Uttar Pradesh where 29 of the dead are from Etah district and 4 from Farrukhabad. The deceased who have been known to consume the bogus alcohol ‘hooch’ at a get-together in Johari Darwaza area in Aliganj on Friday were from Luhari Darwaja and the nearby Laukhera village.

According to media reports, the death toll is expected to rise as among the admitted some are in critical conditions battling for their lives.The death toll counted 21 till Sunday.. The one on the sick list are admitted in hospitals of Etah and Saifai.

The Lucknow Police have arrested the accused Sripal Lodh. 11 officials from the excise department have been suspended in the matter. The Principal Secretary (Excise) and Principal Secretary (Home) suspended the District Excise Officer, Excise Inspector and others from Excise Department. Also, the Circle Officer of Aliganj Asharam Ahirwar and Station House Officer Mukesh Kumar have been suspended for their alleged delinquency.

The SP of Etah suspended Sub-Inspector Yogendra Kumar, Constable Bhagat Singh, Om Prakash, Tukaram, Bhagwan Singh and Mahesh Chandra, as told by Economic Times.

An exgratia of 2 lakhs for the families of the deceased have been announced.

Meanwhile, the authorities have started to chase the manufacturers and sellers of the illegal and adulterated alcohol around the state. According to Times of India, till now the police have seized 36,121 litres of illicit alcohol, lodged 1585 cases, arrested 1621 people and have destroyed 197 illegal liquor producing units. IGP Agra, Durgacharan Mishra is interrogated under the National Security Act about the liquor producing units. Continuous raids are being carried on within Aliganj Police circle to seize and detain any more illegal liquor units in the state.
