With Only One Active Case Left, Himachal Pradesh May Soon Emerge As COVID-19 Free

The authority has been conducting aggressive testing, alongside reaching out to people through Anganwadi and other designated centres.

Out of the two remaining active coronavirus cases, one more patient has recovered in Himachal Pradesh on Sunday, with Una district becoming coronavirus-free.

In a video conference held with officers of other districts, Chief Minister Ram Lal Thakur said that Himachal has come very close to defeating the global epidemic and poised to soon emerge as coronavirus free, if no new case is reported.

As of now, the state has not reported any new case of coronavirus for the past ten days, the State Health Department informed.

On Sunday, the remaining patient of Una undergoing treatment at Charitable Hospital Bhota in Hamirpur was cured, his second report stating negative for the virus. He will be discharged and put in-home quarantine.

At present, the state has only one positive case from Sirmaur district, admitted in the Katha Hospital in Solan. It will have its first sampling on 5th May, while the second sample will go for trial 24 hours later. Following if the reports come negative both times, Himachal might be declared as COVID-19free.

Six districts of the state - Shimla, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Bilaspur, Kinnaur and Mandi did not report a single case, while districts of Kangra, Solan, Hamirpur, Chamba and Una are now under orange zones. Additional Chief Secretary Health RD Dhiman informed that Himachal is ready to meet any challenge pertaining further.

The Health Department believes that there has been no serious case of corona in state. So far, 40 positive cases of corona have been reported, with 34 recovered. A day before, three more patients were recovered from COVID-19 in the state.

In the video conference held on Sunday, the CM directed Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police and Chief Medical Officers to maintain strict vigil on each and every person visiting the state and those coming back, after the Centre exempted interstate traveling last week and have directed to follow norms of in-home quarantine as a moral responsibility. It is mandatory for people entering the state to download the Arogya Setu App.

About 1,314 persons stranded in Chandigarh area were brought back to the state in 51 buses, including 609 people of Kangra district, 335 of Hamirpur district, 132 of Una district and 238 of Chamba district. These people will be further examined for influenza-like-symptoms and later put in-home quarantine.

As reported by The Statesman, considering the economic activities that have been started in green zones, the CM confirmed that special thrust was being laid on providing smooth movement of essential commodities and farming equipment.

The hospitals available in the state for conducting the tests are - Tanda's Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC), Palampur's Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT) in Kangra, Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla and Kasauli's Central Research Institute (CRI) in Solan.
