Just a few days back, when the doctor suffered a cardiac arrest at his home his dog, Brownie who was rescued by Sancheti 16 years ago turned out to be a messiah for him who saved his life.

Almost 16 years ago, the Pune-based doctor Sancheti found a female pup near his residential complex. Sancheti, an animal enthusiast got the dog at his home, and from that day, both of them have been living together. Brownie now has grown old, but she till have sharp senses, which helped her to save her foster parent’s life on the fateful day. On January 23, 2019, Sancheti suffered a partial paralytic attack and a minor cardiac arrest. The doctor who was alone at his home that day collapsed due to the attack.

At 12.30 pm when Mr Shah came close to the doctor’s house to feed Brownie, he noticed Brownie’s unusual behaviour. “She kept raising [herself] up with difficulty and placing her front legs on the window, looking inside. Initially, I was quite confused, but when I went nearer, a gap in the window revealed to me that the doctor had collapsed on the floor,” told Shah while talking to the Pune Mirror.

Shah quickly responded and broke open Sancheti’s door lock. He then called the neighbours for help and rushed Dr Sancheti to a nearby hospital.

Praising Brownie for her active response to the situation, Shah further said that Brownie’s senses made her aware of sounds of heavy breathing and [Sancheti’s] collapse despite she being locked outside the house. He added that canines have an extremely advanced sense of smell.

Repaying the love

Shah also told the Pune Mirror that Sancheti’s family was not around and they still do not know the exact time of the doctor’s cardiac arrest, but due to the dog, neighbours got informed and there was no further delay. This otherwise could have resulted in something much more serious.

Sancheti’s son, Amit Sancheti who lives in Bavdhan which is almost about 10 km from his father’s house said that he lives away from home due to professional reasons, and on that day his mother was also out of town. He said, “ It was only the dog who alerted Shah and saved my father’s life,” reports Pune Mirror.

Shah, who also runs an NGO for visually impaired and specially-abled dogs further informed that a few years ago when Brownie was 14-year-old, it was Dr Sancheti who helped Brownie recover from a terrible ailment. “After her treatment, the Sanchetis took special care of Brownie, helping her recover from a 50 per cent kidney failure,” he added.
