Dalit BJP MLA Writes To PM Modi, "Yogi Adityanath Threw Me Out For Complaining About Discrimination"

A Dalit parliamentarian of the ruling party in Uttar Pradesh has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging harassment by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Chhote Lal Kharwar, 45, alleged that the when he approached the CM twice he was “scolded and thrown out”.

Reportedly, the Prime Minister has assured him that appropriate action will be taken, reported NDTV.

Nature of the complaint

Chhote Lal represents the Robertsganj constituency. He complained to PM Modi that he was facing discrimination in his own administration and his complaints and pleas were falling on deaf ears among his own party members. He has also lodged a formal complaint with the National Commission for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe.

His complaint names Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, state BJP chief Mahendra Nath Pandey and another leader, Sunil Bansal.

“You see, I exhausted all my options internally within the party, that is why I went to the National Commission for Scheduled Castes. You please check at the local level and see if you can find any instances of wrongdoing against me. If not, then why is this happening?” Chhote Lal told NDTV.

In his letter, he also alleged that for the last three years he has been trying to complain about the rising instances of corruption in the district administration and forest department in the Chandauli district near his constituency. He had hoped for a change when Yogi Adityanath came to power but in vain. Rather, his land was shown as encroached forest land by the administration.

He also alleged that the local BJP leaders were working against him and his brother, a local politician, who is also facing the same kind of discrimination.

This complaint comes in the wake of massive Dalit protest that rocked the ruling government against the Supreme Court dilution of SC/ST Act.
