I was diagnosed with Blood Cancer (leukaemia) in the year 2003. While the treatment was going on, I used to get hospitalized for many weeks at Civil Hospital for Chemotherapy. During that time in the evenings my wife would go for a walk around the hospital just to get some fresh air.
At that time the other less fortunate patients she saw made her feel helpless. She saw poor patients and their families sleeping on footpath without blankets and bedsheets, they would starve out of hunger, they didn’t have enough money to buy medicines. Seeing this my wife said, we are so fortunate to be showered with such wealth and facilities, but we need to do something for these poor people.
That was the moment we decided that as soon as I get cured, we will soon start an NGO specially for cancer patients. I winded up my well established export-import business and decided to dedicate coming years of my life to social work. I started Karuna Kare Foundation specially for children who are diagnosed and suffering from Cancer. We do many programmes at our NGO, we celebrate kids birthdays with so much happiness.
We provide with proper nutritious food to malnutrition suffering kids so that cancer doesn’t rebounce to them. We provide staying facilities to patient’s families and provide them with basic food, amenities and money for vegetables.
Cancer has changed me a lot, before cancer my only focus was my business and its increasing profit, but cancer taught me importance of life and family and this is how I started this social work. This is our very small step towards humanity.
