Mumbai Police have escalated security preparations across the city after receiving a chilling bomb threat message via WhatsApp purportedly from Lashkar-e-Jihadi, according to media reports. The message, which reached the official Mumbai Traffic Police helpline on September 4, claimed that 34 vehicles laden with “human bombs” carrying a total of 400 kilograms of RDX explosives were stationed at multiple locations across Mumbai.

The threat also alleged the entry of 14 Pakistani terrorists into Indian territory, warning of a coordinated explosion planned for Anant Chaturdashi, the grand finale of the city’s 10-day Ganesh festival celebrations scheduled for September 6, 2025.

Threat Sparks Heightened Security Measures

The intensity and specificity of the threat have prompted Mumbai Police to heighten vigilance across critical city zones, including bustling transport hubs, festival venues, and high-footfall public places. Security forces have deployed additional personnel, sniffer dogs, and established checkpoints for vehicle scrutiny to intercept any suspicious activity.

A senior police official confirmed, “We have received the threat and are treating it with utmost seriousness. The security apparatus has been augmented across Mumbai, and all leads and angles are under investigation.” Residents have also been urged to stay alert and promptly report any unusual behaviour or unattended items.

Context of Mumbai’s Recurring Bomb Threats

This recent terror warning adds to a pattern of hoax and real terror threats Mumbai has faced in 2025. Earlier false alarms included a bomb threat at Thane’s Kalwa railway station, leading to an arrest, and warnings sent to major transport and religious sites amid heightened regional tensions.

These recurring incidents have put pressure on law enforcement agencies to maintain a delicate balance between proactive security measures and managing public anxiety during large-scale cultural events like Ganesh Visarjan. Organisers and city officials are coordinating closely with police to ensure devotees’ safety while respectfully facilitating the important Hindu ritual.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

The Logical Indian believes that while preparedness is essential, fostering calm and community cooperation is equally crucial. False alarms can exhaust resources and impair morale, making measured responses and public awareness vital for successful threat management.

This episode underscores the importance of strengthened intelligence sharing, technological aids, and civic vigilance in protecting urban safety while preserving social harmony.
