A 32-year-old woman from Tripura’s capital Agartala was allegedly gang-raped and dumped on the roadside while on she was on her way home in an autorickshaw.

The incident took place on Tuesday when the woman visited the Agartala Medical College for her ailing six-year-old daughter. She was found lying near the circuit house by a passerby who then took her to the GB Hospital later. Her condition is stable now.

According to the Indian Express report when the woman asked the driver why he took a detour, he replied that he has an errand to run. While enroute eight men board the vehicle mid-way, gagged her and then shifted her to a van and gang-raped, and then dumped her four km away from the city.

The family said that it took for them to visit three police stations, before filing it in East Agartala Women Station, refusing on the grounds of jurisdiction. This incident happened on late Tuesday and the report was filed on Wednesday.

A police officer told Indian Express, “The victim’s husband has lodged a complaint against nine persons for allegedly kidnapping and raping her. We have arrested six suspects so far. A manhunt is going on for the others. The detainees will be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court today.” All the six have been charged with rape and criminal conspiracy, according to the police officer.

Last year similar case had come to light in Chandigarh when BJP MP Kirron Kher Chandigarh said, “she (Chandigarh rape victim) should not have boarded the auto-rickshaw when she saw three men sitting in it.”

This is not the first case in Agartala, in August similar case where the victim was gang-raped by two men, boarding an autorickshaw on the outskirts.
