Kerala: 12-Year-Old Raped By 30 People For 2 Years With Father’s Consent

A 12-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a group of around 30 people for over two years in Kerala’s Malappuram district, police said on September 22.

The survivor who is a class 7 student claimed that she was harassed with the consent of her father. Tirurangadi Police, investigating the case, has already arrested two people and is trying to establish the role of father.

The accused have been booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

The police said, “In her statement, the victim has accused 30 persons. They had sexually abused her for the last two years. The victim has not been successful in identifying the alleged persons,” according to a media report.

The incident was first reported when local people informed the school where she was studying. The teachers took notice and realised the girl was often missing her classes. After this, the school passed on the information to child-line authorities. When the volunteers at the child-line counselled the minor, she disclosed the details of sexual harassment.

She was reportedly produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) after the disclosure. On September 22, the police registered a case in the matter and the minor was produced before the magistrate.

Anwar Karakkadan of Child-line Malappuram told the media that the girl was the only child in the family, and they were staying in a rented house. He said that the girl has revealed that there were frequent visitors in their home, including her father’s friends, and the numbers would increase during school holidays. She was also forced to skip school.
