At a time when heroic acts of cops in various flood battered states are winning hearts, a case of custodial torture has made the headlines. A shocking incident of four police personnel torturing five tribal men and allegedly forcing them to drink urine when the asked for water has come to light in Madhya Pradesh’s Alirajpur.

The four police personnel including the station incharge has been suspended and a departmental inquiry has been ordered into the matter. All five tribal men who are admitted in the Alirajpur district hospital have accused the police personnel of assault and torture.

The five men were booked under Section 353 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) – assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty.

The police have claimed that these men were in a feud with a youngster who allegedly harassed on one of their sisters. The men were chasing the person when he approached a patrol police vehicle and asked for help.

When the cops wanted to take stock of the situation, the tribal men beat up the police officials. The youngster has not complained about the tribal men but is a prime witness in the case of assaulting police on duty.

Alirajpur SP Vipul Shrivastava told the Indian Express that the allegation of thrashing the tribal men in the custody was found to be true three days ago. He said that five of them had scars on their body.

Shrivastava also assured that the inquiry against the police personnel will be conducted quickly and action will be taken against them.
