As tensions continue in Jaipur’s Shastri Nagar over the rape of a seven-year-old, a CCTV footage of the victim’s abduction by a man on a motorcycle has been found. The footage suggests that the rape might have been a part of a serial crime committed by the same motorcycle-borne man in that area.

3 Rapes Hint At A Serial Rapist

Three cases about similar incidents have been reported from the Bhatta Basti area of Shastri Nagar in the past fortnight, on June 21, 22 and July 1.

All the three crimes were committed in the same way where a motorcycle man would pretend to be some child’s relative or acquaintance and abduct them and rape them. He would then abandon them near their place.

However, the city police have not confirmed, if the same man has committed all the three crimes.

Shastri Nagar Minor’s Rape

In the case of the 7-year-old’s rape, the accused pretended to be the girl’s father’s friend and abducted her from her home. He then took her to the nearby Amanishah ka Nullah and raped her before leaving her back near her house.

A sketch of the accused has been prepared, and the police have formed 14 search teams to trace the man.

Several protests took place, where some protestors vandalised 160 vehicles, demanding the arrest of the accused after the shocking incident. The police have arrested 15 people involved in the violence.

Later, internet mobile services were shut down in as many as 13 police station areas in the city from 2 pm on July 2 to 10 am on July 3, to curb any rumours.

On July 4, Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot visited the house of the victim. He also assured that the accused will be arrested and strict action will be taken.

Meanwhile, a compensation of Rs 5 lakh has also been given to the family of the victim by the Rajasthan Government.
