To rein in traffic violators, Bengaluru traffic police have installed mannequins at various spots in the city. This is an initiative which is being implemented on a trial basis across the state capital.
The move, which aims to warn motorists of traffic violations, comes after the orders from Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao and Joint Police Commissioner (Traffic) BR Ravikanthe Gowda.
As of now, only a few police stations have been provided with these mannequins for trial. Some of them have been installed in areas like Kengeri and Hulimavu. According to officials, more such mannequins will be provided to more police stations and will be placed at busy traffic junctions and crossings.

“Each traffic police station will have these mannequins, to be deployed during the day time, at busy junctions and crossings. These mannequins will hopefully help instil a fear of the presence of authorities even when the traffic police are not on the spot. This is being done on a trial basis. The instructions were issued a week ago and currently, we are testing them. More mannequins will be procured soon. These mannequins will not replace the traffic police on duty but will be present along with the cops,” Bangalore Mirror quoted Kengeri Traffic Police Inspector Shivaswamy as saying.
According to experts, a uniformed personnel’s presence makes people adhere to rules and ensures discipline. Since most vehicle drivers tend to notice the uniform of a man and not the face, the trick should work.
The mannequins, which have been provided with complete uniforms of the traffic policemen, will be removed from the spots after sunset.
