Kailash Vijayvargiya Says Not Aware Of Notice Issued To Son; Defends Bat Assault On Civic Official

On July 6, Veteran BJP Leader Kailash Vijayvargiya stated that he is not aware of any notice issued to his son and BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya by the party over the bat assault in Madhya Pradesh.

He defended the bat assault on the civic official by referring to his son as a “kaccha khiladi”, or a novice, and said that his actions were not of major concern.

Kailash Vijayvargiya’s statement came a few days after the disciplinary committee of the BJP Party issued a show-cause notice to Indore MLA Akash Vijavargiya seeking an explanation for his behaviour.

Contrasting Statements Within The Party

While Madhya Pradesh BJP President on July 4 was of the opinion that no discussion took place on the matter, a senior national leader clarified that a notice was issued.

MLA Satyendra Bhushan Singh who is also the office secretary of the BJP in state, on being asked about the notice, said “Nothing like that, at least in my knowledge.”

Action Post PM’s Remark

The action was immediately taken after PM Modi condemned the incident and said that arrogance and misbehaviour would not be tolerated irrespective of whoever it may be.

The strong statement from the Prime Minister came on July 2, a few days after the bat assault controversy.

PM Modi stated that such a conduct was completely unacceptable, making a reference to Akash Vijayvargiya’s statement “pehle nivedan, phir aavedan, phir danadan” [first request, then application, then attack], which was a defence to his actions.

“If somebody commits a mistake, there should be a sense of regret as well,” PM said.

PM Modi also advised the party to take a quick action in the case.

Kailash Vijayvargiya’s Take

“I don’t know about it. I (just) reached here (Bhopal) from Delhi but I read in newspapers that Akash was served something,” Mr. Kailash Vijayvargiya told the reporters when questioned about the show-cause notice issued against his son.

Replying to whether he confronted his son over the incident, Kailash Vijayvargiya said that he made sure he does everything that he is supposed to do as a father.

Dantna (reprimanding) and samjhana (understanding)… I don’t want to discuss it publicly,” he added.

Kailash Vijayvargiya was also questioned about his son’s public presence to which he replied “Ask him. He will be here to attend the State Assembly session (on July 8).”

The Bat Assault Incident

The incident took place on June 26, when the BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya, was caught on camera assaulting a Municipal corporation Officer after a heated argument.

Supporters of the MLA joined him and also abused the civic body officials. This incident was condemned by the senior leaders of the party.

Though he remained unapologetic over the act, Akash asserted that he would try to follow Mahatma Gandhi’s path of non-violence while raising public issues in future.
