A Kanpur-based woman has accused a Uttar Pradesh Police sub-inspector of rape, physical abuse and sexually exploiting her on the false promise of marriage. The woman has filed an FIR against the officer with senior police officials, seeking legal action.
According to her complaint, she first approached the Kanpur Police Commissioner’s office in 2024 after the officer allegedly refused to marry her despite repeatedly assuring her that he would. She further claimed that after learning about her complaint, the officer married her at a temple and later legally registered the marriage.
However, she alleged that he has now filed for divorce and abandoned her without any financial support. Police officials have said that further action in the matter will be taken based on the investigation and the evidence submitted by the complainant.
Woman Alleges Marriage Promise
According to the complaint, the woman alleged that the sub-inspector established a physical relationship with her on multiple occasions by assuring her that he would marry her. She claimed that she trusted the promise of marriage and continued the relationship, but the officer later refused to fulfil his commitment. Feeling cheated and seeking legal recourse, she approached the Kanpur Police Commissioner’s office in 2024 and requested that a rape case be registered against him.
The woman has also accused the officer of physically abusing her during the course of their relationship. Following the complaint, she alleged that the officer decided to marry her in a temple. She further stated that the marriage was later legally registered, giving her hope that the dispute had been resolved. However, according to the complainant, the relationship deteriorated once again.
She claimed that the officer has now initiated divorce proceedings and left her without any financial support. Seeking justice, she has lodged an FIR with senior police officials and urged the authorities to take legal action against the accused officer.
