In quite an unusual way, a train driver reversed train for a kilometre to save lives of two-person after they had jumped from the hurtling train, reported Hindustan Times. His quick action facilitated both the person to reach the nearby hospital. The incident took place in Kota-Bina stretch of Atru-Salpura railway line in Rajasthan.
The incident took place at 4 pm on April 27 when the victim, Rajendra Verma jumped off the train. It was later known that Verma was suffering from mental illness for the last five days. To save Verma, Vinod Verma – his brother too jumped from the train.
Explaining the incident, Suresh Verma, their cousin, who was in the train with them said that Rajendra Verma worked as a labourer with him in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh. Stressing on the mental condition of Rajendra, he said that Rajendra was not in a proper mental state for the last five days. He noted that Rajendra’s condition further stooped down on the night of April 24, when Rajendra was travelling to Sikar district through Katni town of Madhya Pradesh. His deteriorating condition prompted Suresh and Vinod to take a train to Jaipur.
On April 25, Rajendra jumped off the train at 3 am when the train crossed Ashok Nagar railway station. Suresh further mentioned that he had to pull the emergency chain to catch his cousin brother. Police charged him for pulling the chain.
On the very next day around 4 pm, just when the train passed Salpura area of Baran district, Rajendra was sleeping on the upper berth, suddenly hurtled down, rushed to the gate and jumped from the gate. To save him, Vinod also jumped.
What did the authority say?
Vijay Prakash, the senior divisional commercial manager of Kota region, said that as soon as Rajendra fell, someone pulled the chain and the train came to a halt. Relatives of Rajendra called for an ambulance. However, the train was stuck in a position where the ambulance could not have reached. The train driver understanding this, reversed the train for almost one kilometre. Later on, the ambulance reached the spot where the train had come to a halt after reversing. Both the brothers were taken to the hospital. Prakash later confirmed that both the brothers are now stable.
