Fact Check: Screengrab From Bhojpuri Movie Circulated As BSP Leader Molesting Woman

The fake news factory has revived an already refuted fake image, this time with a new propaganda, targetting Dalits. The photo of a woman being stripped by a man with few others laughing around has been shared again on social media. The caption of the post was in Hindi, which said:

“ये कोई फिल्मी सीन नही है दलीत भाईयो बसपा नेता बकरूद्दीन अन्सांरी अपने गुन्डो के साथ मिलकर दलीत महिला को सारे बाजर किया नंगा देख लो इन कुत्तों की दबंगई. (This is not a movie scene Dalit brothers, BSP leader Bakruddin Ansari, along with his goons, publically stripped a Dalit woman off her clothes).”

The post has been shared almost 10,000 times. This post was viral last year when Kolkata Police arrested a man from Sonarpur for posting “fake” pictures that he claimed were of Basirhat. The Cyber Crime Cell of Kolkata Police arrested this man for posting a photo from a Bhojpuri movie and claiming it was captured in Basirhat, West Bengal, during the riots.

This photo was again posted most recently on November 8 and the caption was in Tamil. The post has over 12,000 shares and despite people pointing out the obvious inauthenticity of the news, the post is still up.

This picture is a screen grab from a Bhojpuri movie. The Bhojpuri actor Manoj Tiwari was the lead actor in the movie. Ironically, Manoj Tiwari is the BJP party leader in Delhi. The name of the movie is Aurat Khilona Nahi and the scene in question can be found around the 2-hour 10-minute mark.

Propaganda

Last time this image got viral, it said that a Muslim man was molesting a Hindu woman. That time the propaganda was against the Muslim minority community. This time, they talk about BSP leader Bakruddin Ansari. Not only is the name seemingly Muslim, but BSP is also a party that stands with Dalits. So, with this post, they are successfully sidelining Muslims and Dalits.

Upon further checking, we found out that there is no BSP leader called Bakruddin Ansari.

The Logical Indian take

As citizens of the country, we have a certain responsibility. While trolls and parody accounts have taken the responsibility upon themselves to share as much false information as possible, it is our responsibility to differentiate between what is true and what isn’t, while making others aware about the issue too.

Creating or sharing fake news is never justified. We have a responsibility to verify everything that we post on the internet. To ensure that our national debate is healthy and well-informed, each and every one of us has a responsibility of treating what we read with a pinch of salt, a spoonful of doubt, and a flood of research.
