Bengaluru is set to host New Year celebrations on December 31, 2024, with over 7 lakh attendees expected. The Karnataka Police will deploy 11,830 personnel and 10,000 CCTV cameras to ensure safety, particularly in high-traffic areas like MG Road and Brigade Road.

Traffic restrictions begin at 4 PM, and festivities will conclude by 1 AM with strict enforcement against drunk driving. Local venues are hosting various events, and Namma Metro will extend services to accommodate revelers. Authorities emphasize safety guidelines to ensure a secure and enjoyable New Year’s Eve for all.

Security, Transportation, and Events

As Bengaluru prepares to welcome the New Year, extensive measures are being implemented to ensure public safety and smooth festivities. With a large turnout expected, the celebrations will be closely monitored.

Security Measures and Traffic Management

Approximately 11,830 police personnel, including senior officers, will be deployed in key areas such as MG Road, Brigade Road, Koramangala, and Indiranagar. City Police Commissioner B Dayananda stated that the police have made elaborate security arrangements based on last year’s incidents to prevent any untoward occurrences. “We have identified areas where people are likely to gather in large numbers, such as MG Road and Brigade Road junction. Accordingly, arrangements have been made,” he added.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar also emphasized the importance of maintaining Bengaluru’s reputation as an international city during the celebrations. He noted that while individual celebrations cannot be stopped, the government will not tolerate any mischief. A zero-tolerance policy towards drunk driving will be enforced, with celebrations capped at 1 AM. Traffic restrictions will begin at 4 PM on December 31, prohibiting vehicular movement on MG Road and establishing designated parking areas.

To enhance security, over 10,000 CCTV cameras will monitor crowded areas alongside the deployment of 63 observation towers and 114 women safety islands. Checkpoints at major intersections will help ensure compliance with traffic regulations.

Transportation Adjustments and Public Health Guidelines

Namma Metro will extend its services until 2:40 AM on January 1 to facilitate safe transportation for revelers returning home after midnight. The BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation) is also adjusting its services for the celebrations.

While large gatherings are anticipated, attendees are encouraged to follow any ongoing public health guidelines related to COVID-19 or other health concerns.

Do’s and Don’ts for Revelers

To ensure a safe environment during the festivities, Bengaluru Police have issued guidelines:

Do’s:
  • Celebrate only in designated areas.
  • Use public transport or designated drivers if consuming alcohol.
  • Report any suspicious activity or emergencies to the police.

Don’ts:
  • Engage in drunk driving; penalties will be strictly enforced.
  • Carry items that could be used as weapons or cause harm.
  • Wear masks that conceal your identity; this is prohibited for safety reasons.

Conclusion

Bengaluru’s preparations for New Year celebrations reflect a robust approach to ensuring public safety while allowing residents and visitors to enjoy the festivities. With extensive police deployment, advanced surveillance technology, detailed traffic management plans, community involvement, and exciting events planned across the city, Bengaluru is poised for a memorable New Year’s Eve as it welcomes 2025 responsibly and joyfully.
