In Bengaluru’s Whitefield area, a 24-year-old bank employee was allegedly stabbed by Sai Babu Chennuru, a 37-year-old software engineer from Andhra Pradesh, after she refused his sexual advances and denied his demand for ₹70,000. The incident occurred at their co-living PG accommodation, Pro4Living.

The woman was rushed to hospital by friends and survived. Police apprehended Sai shortly after, registering a case under charges including attempt to murder, sexual harassment, and extortion. Complaints and counter-complaints have been filed amidst ongoing investigations.

Harrowing Details of the Attack and Immediate Aftermath

The alleged assault took place around 3 am when Sai allegedly rang the victim’s doorbell and, upon her opening, entered and locked the door from inside. Witnesses say he stabbed her on the back with a knife, stripped her, and took objectionable photos before demanding sexual compliance and money.

The woman refused, citing she was menstruating. Sai transferred ₹14,000 from her digital wallet after coercion and threatened to circulate the photos if she reported him. Later, friends intervened and helped her seek medical treatment. Sai was also allegedly assaulted by PG management residents, leading to further police reports.

Background of the Accused and Ongoing Legal Proceedings

Sai Babu Chennuru, originally from Andhra Pradesh, has a criminal record related to similar offences. He claims he and the woman had a consensual two-month relationship that turned sour. After a confrontation and temporary departure from the PG, Sai says he was assaulted by management and other PG residents, prompting multiple police complaints.

Police confirmed Sai’s arrest and stated preliminary findings indicate both parties knew each other. Investigations continue exploring the extent of the assault, extortion allegations, and PG management’s role.

This distressing case highlights the vulnerability women face in shared living spaces and the critical importance of safety, privacy, and dignity protections. The Logical Indian urges prompt justice and improved safety norms for co-living spaces, coupled with a culture of respect and awareness to prevent sexual violence and extortion.
