According to India Today, at least 50 people in Delhi-NCR employed with companies located at Unitech Cyber Park in Gurgaon, lost their hard-earned money after swiping their debit cards at an HDFC Bank ATM in the IT hub.

According to Financial Express, Neeraj Jain and Naresh Nodia on May 1 received SMS alerts of large sums of money being withdrawn from their accounts in United States. After they filed complaints in the matter, several other victims also came forward with the same complaint. Police investigation into the complaints posted by victims revealed that a device installed in the ATM machine cloned the cards and provided their details. Police suspect that the device was installed in April and the scamsters collected data of all those who swiped their cards. By the end of April, as soon as people received their salaries, money from their accounts was transacted.

Several victims tweeted details of the fraudulent activity.

In response to the wide outcry in social media, HDFC Bank has promised to refund the money to the victims. Head of corporate communication, HDFC bank, Mumbai, Neeraj Jha tweeted:
