IISc Bangalore Best University In Country As Per NIRF Ranking 2018

In a ceremony conducted at the Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, Human Resources Development Ministry released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for 2018. As per the report, The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, secured top position in overall rankings.

Prakash Javadekar, the HRD Minister, awarded the top universities and colleges of the country in the ceremony. This year the ranking has been given in 9 categories compared to the 6 in the previous year. The categories include Top Universities, Top Colleges, Top Medical College, Top Engineering College, Top Pharmacy Colleges, Top Law Colleges, Top Architecture Colleges of India and Top Management College.

Some of the renowned institutes of India was able to secure top positions in various categories. In the Top University category, IISc Bangalore was ranked 1 and in the Overall category as well. In Top Colleges category of India, Miranda House was Ranked one whereas IIT Madras was the Top Engineering College. AIIMS secured 1st rank in Top Medical Colleges of India category and IIM Ahmedabad in Top Management Colleges of India.


Parameters

A Core Committee set up by MHRD draws the methods from the overall recommendations to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions. Following parameters broadly cover “Teaching, Learning and Resources,” “Research and Professional Practices,” “Graduation Outcomes,” “Outreach and Inclusivity,” and “Perception”.


Background

The NIRF Ranking 2018 is the third instalment of the National Institutional Ranking Framework. MHRD had approved the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) on 29th September 2015 which was launched by Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development.

As many as 4000 institutions have participated this year. Architecture and Medical are the new additions to the list. Category wise list of top colleges in Engineering, medical and law colleges was also released with the comprehensive list of top colleges in our country.
