The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has published their first rankings of national universities on Monday. The list has been topped by the Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc), Bangalore, with an overall score of 91.81. The NIRF is a survey of India’s educational institutions commissioned by Union HRD ministry. The parameters for the ranking include teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity and perception. Besides universities, the ranking covers six categories of institutions including engineering, management, pharmacy, architecture and colleges.The IISc has been previously given the recognition of top-ranking Indian institution in Times Higher Education list 2015. IISc was followed by the Mumbai-based Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), which ranked number two by NIRF, with a score of 87.58. In spite of being caught under several controversies The Jawaharlal Nehru University and University of Hyderabad, were ranked third and fourth, followed by Tezpur University in the 5th position.

The business education section of the NIRF was dominated by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), with IIM, Bangalore securing the top spot, with a score of 93.04. Among the non-IIM business schools, the Delhi’s International Management Institute ranked 7th, while the Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal (8th) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur (9th), make up the rest of the top 10.

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) secured all the top 10 spots in engineering institutes of India. Only the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Tiruchirapalli came at number 12 to break the streak of IITs.

The Logical Indian congratulates IISc Bangalore for topping the list and at the same time congratulates govt. over the years for creating a premier scienc institute. We request government to take necessary steps to improve the state of these premier institutes of the country and to put efforts to make these institutes world class, so that more students prefer studying in India instead of going abroad. Last year IISc was the only institute to made to the list of
Top 100 universities of the world.
