After 31 years of separation, Raju, who was kidnapped at the age of seven from Ghaziabad, has been reunited with his family. Abducted on September 8, 1993, by an auto gang while walking home from school with his sister, Raju endured years of forced labour and abuse in Rajasthan before escaping and making his way back to Delhi. His story gained traction when he reached the Khoda police station, where officers provided assistance and shared his plight on social media, leading to his family’s discovery. Senior police officer Rajnish Upadhyay confirmed the ongoing investigation into the case.

A Miraculous Reunion

Raju’s abduction occurred when he was taken by kidnappers who demanded a ransom of ₹7.40 lakh from his family. For three decades, he faced severe conditions in captivity, including daily beatings and minimal food. Despite these hardships, Raju never lost hope and managed to escape by hitching a ride back to Delhi. Upon arriving at the Khoda police station five days ago, he received care from the police, who helped publicise his situation. “I am feeling so good now,” Raju expressed, crediting his prayers to Lord Hanuman for his safe return.

A Long Journey of Suffering

Raju’s family lived in uncertainty following his disappearance. A police report was filed after his abduction, but no leads emerged. During this time, he was sold into servitude and endured brutal conditions. He was often tied up at night to prevent escape and forced to work for minimal sustenance. Interestingly, it was the younger daughter of one of his captors who encouraged him to pray to Lord Hanuman for strength, which he credits for helping him endure his suffering and ultimately escape.

How Ghaziabad Police Helped

Upon arriving at the Khoda police station after escaping from Rajasthan, Raju received immediate assistance from officers, including food and shoes. They took proactive steps by sharing his story through media and social media platforms, which led to Raju’s uncle contacting them and facilitating a swift reunion with his family. Senior police officer Rajnish Upadhyay confirmed that an investigation into the case is underway.

An Emotional Homecoming

The reunion took place at a Hanuman temple near the police station, where Raju expressed heartfelt gratitude for being reunited after years apart. His family had long feared the worst but were overwhelmed with joy upon seeing their son again. The community has rallied around them, offering support and celebrating this miraculous return.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This heartwarming reunion underscores the resilience of the human spirit amidst unimaginable adversity. It highlights the importance of community support and effective law enforcement in reuniting families torn apart by crime. As we reflect on Raju’s story, we must ask ourselves: How can we foster a society that prioritises safety and compassion for all?
