A Kolkata woman was rescued from a Delhi brothel by the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) and Delhi Police after her brother tipped off the authorities.

The woman came to Delhi after a man promised her a job. However, she was sold to a brothel. She was rescued on August 8 after her brother came to her rescue.

Brother Poses As Client & Saves Sister

The survivor was working at a reputed company at Kolkata. She was promised a better opportunity in Delhi.

The 27-year-old woman came to Delhi on June 8. However, after that, the family did not hear from her and her phone went unreachable.

The woman’s brother received a call from an unidentified man who informed him that his sister was held at a brothel. Her brother then immediately came to Delhi and met the man at Karol Bagh. The man had visited the brothel where his sister was kept. The woman had begged the man to inform her brother about her whereabouts and gave him her brother’s contact details.

After obtaining the necessary details from the man, he visited the brothel posing as a customer. He managed to speak to his sister. After that, he approached the DCW. DCW member Kiran Negi dispatched a team to the brothel with her brother.

The woman was rescued and brought to Kamla Market police station where an FIR was registered. The woman running the brothel was arrested.

Human Trafficking

Trafficking is the third-largest organised crime in the world after drugs and arms trade.

The data tabled in Parliament recently showed that the number of traffickers arrested in India has increased over the years from 8,220 in 2014 to 10,815 traffickers in 2016.

The United Nations defines trafficking as any activity which leads to recruitment, transportation, harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of threat or use of force or a position of vulnerability.
