On the 29th of October 2015, 4 people were attacked with acid in Bhusawal, Maharashtra. Deepika, her husband vinod, Her brother Prashant and Vinod’s friend Santosh were attacked viciously with a 5 litre can of acid by their local milk vendor Manoj.

Deepika is the mother of two daughters who became the victim of it because she refused the sexual advances of the accused. Vinod suffers from TB and the family comes from a very underprivileged background. They are based in Bhusawal, Maharashtra where the attack took place. When being confronted on his thoughts to have sexual relations with Deepika, Manoj attacked the group of 4 with acid. The 4 were first admitted to a government hospital where they received no treatment till 3 hours after the attack and were charged even for dressing which is something that should be free. Out of options, the family had to be admitted to a private hospital, which they could not afford. The accused was granted bail one month after the attack due to political connections he holds with political goons.

He now threatens to attack Deepika’s two young daughters if the family does not withdraw the case. Deepika’s youngest brother is the only person who earns in the family now and is struggling to even put food on the table. The family is yet to receive any government compensation even though they have applied for it. Even though the FIR was filed on the day of the attack, the police only expected the crime scene the next day. In this case 4 members of a same family are victims.

The family is currently in debt and in dire need of assistance. They have no help and in an acid attack case, the situation turn worse with time, the victim always needs surgery after few months but what gets expensive is the daily dressing, legal battle and financial struggle. They are not even in a position to have food, forget the treatment.
