We have heard many stories of rich fathers showering their money on their kids and spoiling them. But this story of a father sending his son to Kerala to do odd jobs, to make his own living and experience living like a common man is heart warming.
Savji Dholakia, an owner of a Surat-based Rs 6,000 crore company, gave his son three conditions: he needs to work to earn his money and he couldn’t work at a place for more than a week; he can’t use his father’s identity nor use the mobile phone nor Rs 7,000 taken from home for a month. He wanted him to understand life and how the plebeians struggle to get a job and money. He believes no university can teach these life skills except experience.
Dravya Dholakia, arrived in Kochi on June 21 with three pairs of clothes and Rs 7,000 that his father instructed should be used only in case of an emergency.
For five days he had no job or proper place to stay and was frustrated after getting rejected at 60 places. He had to lie to his employers that he is a class XII student, born in a poor farmer’s family in Gujarat.
During his stay, he has to work at a call centre, a shoe shop and even at McDonalds’ outlet. He had to struggle for lodging and even to get food.
He returned to his home this week on Tuesday and resumed his normal life style.
