Lost his daughter, but her heart still beats
There are only a few feelings in the world that can be worse than losing your son or daughter at a tender age. Shawn Zimmerman had to go through this sorrow when he lost his daughter in a drunk-driving accident in March.
However, his daughter’s heart was transplanted into another 14-year-old Alj Jefferies who had a heart disease from his birth. Shawn’s daughter Katelyn heart was now pumping inside Jefferies.
A touching sight that will bring tears
It was indeed a touching sight to see Shawn put a stethoscope on Jefferies’ chest to hear his daughters heartbeat. It was a bitter sweet experience for Shawn to hear his daughter’s heart beat and yet realizing that she was not around.
Speaking to FOX 8, Shawn himself explains in beautiful words what it means to him “It put us at peace knowing that Katelyn’s heart is still beating, even though it’s not in her,”.
The recipient of the heart transplant also conveyed his gratitude for the same Alj Jefferies said, “Thank you for the gift of being able to see more in life. Thank you for letting me have a second chance. Thank you from the bottom of my heart – thank you for being my miracle.”
