This British MP Tried To Save A Dying Police Officer’s Life As Everyone Else Ran For Shelter

Central London was in a frenzy on Wednesday when a man drove a sport utility vehicle on the pavement, killing at least five people and injuring 40 others.

Following the crash, the driver left the vehicle and approached the Parliament, where he fatally stabbed a police officer.

The MPs were directed to shelter inside.

As the scuffle between the police officers and the attacker caused shots to be fired, no one knew for certain that the danger was averted.

But the hostility didn’t stop British MP Tobias Ellwood.

While his colleagues gathered on the Chamber floor, Ellwood ran in the opposite direction, heading outside to see whether he could help. Just steps from the exit, he found an unconscious police officer lying on the ground, bleeding from multiple wounds. According to witnesses, Ellwood attempted mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and applied pressure to the wounds to stem the blood flow. He didn’t stop until medical staff, and an air ambulance landed in Parliament square.

His military training kicked in him the courage to attempt to save the officer’s life

Ellwood served as a captain in the Royal Green Jackets from 1991 to 1996. His military efforts took him to Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Kuwait, Germany, Gibraltar and Bosnia. He remains an army reservist.

Though the officer didn’t survive, social media has been flooded with pictures of Ellwood talking to police officers, hands and face still bloody.

“In the Chamber, there was a real sombre mood when they announced the policeman had died, and equally there is massive admiration for Tobias Ellwood”, said Alan Duncan, a Tory minister who works with Ellwood told The Telegraph UK.

Ellwood has been affected by terror before. He had lost his brother, Jon, in the 2002 Bali nightclub bombing. It was a sombre time for the MP as getting Jon’s body to Britain was extremely difficult.
